Motor Gymkhana Friday 18th May
Many thanks to all who took part & helped with the marshalling last night and nice to see some new faces too.
We had a total of eight competitors and seven tests.
The aim of the motor gymkhana is to get as few penalty points as possible, the penalty points for most of the tests being distances and/or differences measured in CM. Maximum scores are set in case anyone fails a test completely, but you are given the chance to “Play your Joker” and have a second go in an attempt to improve your score,
Test 1 – driving forward/backwards a prescribed number of wheel revolutions
Test 2 – driving forward & then reversing into parking spaces, the aim being to park smack in the centre of the spaces.
Test 3 – The “FA cup penalty kick” a new test for us, the aim of this was to score a goal by hitting a 1m diameter beach ball into a 2m wide goal, this test proved to be quite popular. John in the Mini nailed it perfectly, but think the bumpers on the modern cars proved to be too high and pushed the ball more into the ground rather than towards the goal, so this test will need a bit of refinement.
Test 4 – drive up to a post and get as close as you could without hitting it, then same thing again but reversing to another post.
Test 5 – placing a wheel on or as close to as you can, to a couple of 10cm diameter discs on the ground 10m away from the start.
Test 6 – Make the gap between a pair of traffic cones as narrow as possible, but so you can still drive between them without hitting them.
Test 7 – drive around a set course, attempting to get as close to a target time set by the organiser, but without spilling any water from the two wine glasses balanced on the car bonnet. Kev how did you manage to do the wrong route on this test?
1st – Chris Duffin Ford Fiesta 132
2nd – Gary Newman Nissan Qashqai 169
3rd – Dave Cooper Skoda Supurb 199
4th – John Fox Austin Mini 202
5th – Martin Ford Volvo (Supertanker) 232
6th – Rich Smith Seat Ibiza 258
7th – Kamila Mazda MX-5 341
